The Invasion was never going to work. Next to no big-name WCW performers were involved, and the whole thing quickly descended into a fight between the McMahons. To make matters worse, the one top level WCW star that made the jump was buried in the most blatant of ways, given an impossible gimmick to survive and a succession of beatings to ensure the dirt on top of the grave wasn't moving.

Diamond Dallas Page spent much of md-2001 stalking Sara - The Undertaker's wife - before 'feuding' with 'Taker. The use of those inverted commas is not a mistake by the way, as a feud usually involves two people fighting each other. Taker vs. DDP was a parade of house show squash matches played out on national television. The whole thing came to a head at SummerSlam, where DDP teamed with Kanyon in a depressingly one-sided cage match loss to the Brothers of Destruction.

Worse was to come for Page. The next night on RAW, DDP took on The Undertaker's wife in the main event. After allowing Sara to get a couple of shots in, DDP was pummeled on the outside by Big Evil and rolled back in for the pin. The 'match' lasted eight seconds, but the damage done to Diamond Dallas Page was irreparable.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
