10 Worst WWE Royal Rumble Winners Ever
3. Alberto Del Rio (2011)
Remember that time WWE said, "Why don't we add ten more barely-used roster members to our already weak Rumble lineup?".
Seriously, after CM Punk and Daniel Bryan kicked things off, we had John Cena at number 22, Alberto Del Rio at 38, and Randy Orton at 39 who had any realistic chance of standing tall in the first and last 40-man Royal Rumble.
The match had real promise in stages, the returns of Booker T and Diesel were cool, and CM Punk hung in to claim the Ironman crown by lasting 35 minutes. Alex Riley gave us the gift of his infamous botched elimination, and the tease of Santino Marella almost being the last man standing would have been, looking back, a far better shock than Jinder Mahal's WWE Championship win.
WWE can't be blamed too harshly for throwing The Mexican Aristocrat the ball. On paper, he had the whole package, but Del Rio was a victim of the 'too fast, too soon' school of booking. WWE's attempts to manufacture a new face of the Hispanic market backfired, but that fan connection eas never there. This would have been an all-time great Rumble with 30 men and a better winner here.
