10 Worst WWE SummerSlam Main Events Ever

4. Hulk Hogan & Brutus Beefcake vs. Randy Savage & Zeus (1989)

A vehicle to hype the WWF-produced movie, 'No Holds Barred', the main event of SummerSlam 1989 was a true anomaly. As the villain from the movie, Zeus teamed with a heel Randy Savage to face the combination of Hulk Hogan and Brutus Beefcake. The results were mixed at best, and fairly flat and unbelievable at worst. This was perhaps a sign of where Vince McMahon wanted to take the WWF product in the coming decade of the 1990's. Always seeking out opportunities to promote outside of the professional wrestling bubble, maybe McMahon felt movies were his ticket to the top. They weren't, but that didn't stop SummerSlam '89 from being headlined by a non-wrestler. Zeus tried his best, but he was obviously very limited inside the ring. Hulk Hogan and Brutus Beefcake weren't the men to carry him, because they couldn't sell effectively for his apparent power house offence. Ironically, Savage may have been a better choice to oppose Zeus, because at least he could bump around for the big guy. The SummerSlam '89 main event was a low point of the 80's in the WWF.
