10 Worst WWE SummerSlam PPVs Ever
6. 1990
SummerSlam 1990 was a PPV that seemed to suffer from
trying to fit far too many matches onto its card. In an event that lasted just shy of two hours and 40
minutes, we saw nine full bouts throughout the night, with a tenth cancelled
via forfeit.
And as a result, only three of these contests made it past ten minutes—one of which was a two-out-of-three falls match, and another which was a WWE Championship bout lasting a mere 10 minutes and five seconds.
Elsewhere on the show, we had three clashes that didn’t even make it to the five-minute mark. And one of those bouts was Randy Savage vs. Dusty Rhodes, which on paper sounds like a dream match (no pun intended) and was certainly deserving of more time.
The Hogan vs. Earthquake co-main event was perhaps better than you may have expected. But some cited it as a watered down knock-off of WrestleMania III's Hogan vs. André the Giant feud, while ending the match via a count-out decision could be seen as a bit of a cop-out, too.
All in all, this just wasn’t a particularly brilliant all-round display, and though there may have been some decent moments, it’s isn’t the kind of show that’s worth going out of your way to see. Again, time may not have been too kind on this one.
