10 Worst WWE SummerSlam PPVs Ever
5. 1993
While you could argue that most of the shows on this list so
far have certainly had their high points, we’re now moving into less
contentious territory and the quality is about to take a hit. Or rather, as in
the case of SummerSlam 1993, it’s the logic that’s about to take a hit.
Because in this show’s main event, we saw Lex Luger challenge Yokozuna for the WWE Championship, in what would be Luger’s one and only chance at taking home the belt. Plus, a second stipulation ruled that Luger would have to wear a protective pad on his forearm, inside of which was a steel plate.
All sounds fair enough. But it was a little confusing when he used that very forearm to knock Yokozuna out of the ring, eventually ending the match via count-out. Which, of course, meant the title wouldn’t change hands.
And what was even more confusing still was the fact that Luger celebrated like he’d just won the jackpot. Confetti, balloons, the waving of the flag; Luger was lauded like a true hero, when really he’d failed in his bid for the gold. It was a scene that just didn’t seem to be congruent with the verdict we’d witnessed mere moments ago.
Add to that the small matter of the Undertaker’s WrestleMania rematch
with Giant González, and I can’t see there being too many arguments about this
one’s inclusion.
