10 Worst WWE Title Challengers
1. The Great Khali
At number one though, we have a man who actually challenged
for the belt not once, not twice, but thrice.
His first two attempts at the old crown jewels came in a 2007 programme with John Cena, first at the Judgment Day PPV and then again at One Night Stand. But after a pair of fairly forgettable matches, he was back for more the following year, when he challenged Triple H for the strap on the grand old stage of SummerSlam.
And though he did manage to win the World Heavyweight Championship in his WWE career, the WWE Title eluded him on each of these three occasions. In fact, the only thing these title shots did help to earn him was a pair of Wrestling Observer Newsletter awards for Most Overrated in 2007 and Worst Gimmick in 2008, which seems to tell a story of its own.
At the end of the day, Khali was certainly pushed too soon, although
there were numerous other issues alongside this—not least his limited mobility in
the ring and the fact that he scarcely spoke the language.
Whichever way you look at it, though, it’s difficult to see beyond the Great Khali as the worst WWE Title challenger in history.
Unless of course, I’ve managed to make any glaring omissions and forget about someone even worse. Let me know in the comments below if you think that’s the case, and as ever feel free to share your thoughts on anything else that was covered in the article.
