10 Worst WWE Title Challengers

8. Gillberg

Another one-off challenger here, and another who was used primarily to reinforce the despotic ways of a bad guy WWE Champion.

Here, the belt-holder in question was Triple H and thanks to his pull with Shane McMahon, he managed to avoid a title defence against Stone Cold Steve Austin, instead being paired against the company’s other “bald-headed SOB”, the somewhat less imposing Gillberg.

Despite being the Light-Heavyweight Champion at the time, Gillberg was little more than a comedy character, and so realistically he shouldn't have been anywhere near the WWE Championship. Obviously, though, this was no more than an exercise in further establishing The Game as a dastardly heel.

The match itself was actually pretty fun, though, for the couple of minutes it lasted. Gillberg opened the contest with an unexpected Spear on Triple H, but his attempted Jackhammer follow-up was countered by the Game with ease. A second Spear followed, but the champ would soon hit the Pedigree for the academic 1-2-3.

Another challenger who was little more than an enhancement opponent, and thus another challenger worthy of a spot on this list.
