10 Worst WWF 'New Generation' Gimmicks

6. Phantasio

According to Harry Del Rios, the Phantasio character was supposed to be a huge babyface in the WWF during 1995. Wearing a black and white mask, the man would hand the item to a lucky fan around ringside. By comparison to the shades Bret Hart would give ringsiders, this was woefully wide of the mark. There was little about the character that appealed to fans in general, let alone young children. Even worse, Phantasio had his face painted in similar fashion to the mask he had just taken off. This, of course, made the mask utterly pointless. All in all, the character only made one televised appearance, defeating the jobber Tony DeVito in just a few minutes on Wrestling Challenge. By 1995, the program was very low down on the scale of importance to the WWF, and it showed. Phantasio's finisher was 'magically' removing his opponent's boxer shorts, before performing a school boy roll up for the pin fall victory. After the bout, he again removed underwear, this time belonging to the referee. Gorilla Monsoon did his best on commentary to sell his excitement about the new wrestler, but fans weren't buying it. This was a terribly thought out idea.
