10 Wrestler Introductions You Don't Remember
1. Batista - Deacon
Many fans look at the famed 2002 OVW class of John Cena, Randy Orton, Brock Lesnar and Batista as one of the greatest developmental successes in wrestling history. While the likes of Cena, Orton and Lesnar all were given the superstar treatment from day one, that wasn't the case for The Animal.
Following The Dudley Boyz being separated in the WWE draft, D-Von had adopted a preacher gimmick, now going as Reverend D-Von. Alongside the Reverend was his protégé, Deacon Batista. Wearing a sleeveless suit and a collection box around his neck, Batista looked more like a cartoon villain than WWE's next main event star.
The pairing would last just six months, with Reverend and Deacon arguing more and more before eventually turning on each other. Batista would drop both the Deacon part of his name and his association with D-Von as a whole while beating his mentor in convincing fashion to end their rivalry.
Thankfully, after leaving D-Von behind, Batista would be shifted over to Raw and quickly joined Triple H, Ric Flair and Randy Orton. The foursome formed Evolution, and the rest was history.
