10 Wrestler Introductions You Don't Remember
2. Santino Marella - Italian Fan
Following WrestleMania 23, Intercontinental Champion Umaga was still acting as the heavy for Vince McMahon in the pair's rivalry with Bobby Lashley. Vince had the idea for The Samoan Bulldozer to defend his title, first offering the match to anyone on the roster, before shifting the focus to the Italian crowd. The Chairman would select a random man in the front row who stood out solely for his bright red shoes.
The lucky fella was barely spoke English and gave his name as Santino Marella. After Santino was dominated by Umaga for the early part of this No Holds Barred match, Lashley would appear, cracking the Intercontinental Champion over the head with a steel chair and then hitting a spear. Bobby would throw Marella's lifeless body over Umaga to win the match and the title for the newcomer.
One of the biggest upsets in WWE history would start Marella's eight-year WWE career. He quickly transformed himself from Italian fan to one of the best comedy wrestlers in WWE history. The funniest part of Santino's debut, is that despite being cheered as a hero by the Italian crowd, and keeping his accent throughout his career, WWE never once acknowledged the fact that he is not even Italian.
