10 Wrestlers AEW Has Given Up On
9. Emi Sakura
Sorry, but Emi Sakura was very much part of the dark days for the women's division in All Elite. No, not the Dark days, just the uncapitalised, boring old regular bleak. Back then, Emi was waltzing into view dressed as Freddy Mercury for...reasons, and routinely warring with Riho.
It wasn't great, and it's safe to say that things have improved exponentially under the leadership of Britt Baker. Meanwhile, Sakura has become a Dark and Dark: Elevation regular who doesn't have any upward mobility on the AEW ladder in 2022. She's very much there to make up the numbers.
That's a dip for Emi - she was in the hunt for the Women's Title at one point, but those days are long gone. Tony Khan and his braintrust obviously don't see a long-term future for the 45 year old. Sakura's role is as gap filler, and that's not going to change any time soon.
Great stick on moustache though.
