10 Wrestlers Better Off For Having Worked With Mick Foley
3. Edge
Edge had a chip the size of Chicago as he entered the Windy City for WrestleMania 22 and a showdown with Mick Foley. His credibility as a main event villain called into question by management, and the questionable decision to have him drop the WWE title just weeks after winning it despite increased television ratings, he was understandably pissed off as he arrived at the Showcase of the Immortals.
Luckily, he would be able to channel all of his frustration, anger and disappointment into one of the greatest matches in WrestleMania history.
Working with Foley brought with it the opportunity for Edge to thrive in a high-profile match. At that point, Foley was still relatively retired, reemerging only for the chance to work with bright young stars and help legitimize them in the eyes of the fans.
He did that at the event, dragging Edge to the depths of despair and back, sending him back-first into thousands of thumbtacks and busting him open with barbed wire. In the end, though, he endured a spear through the ring ropes and into a flaming table.
With that one spot, capping off an extraordinary match, Edge earned the approval of his peer, the fans and management. The following night on Raw, he was catapulted right back into the WWE title hunt, where he would remain for the remainder of his career.
Foley also benefited from the contest. For the first time in his already legendary career, he enjoyed a bona fide WrestleMania moment, crossing that item off of his bucket list.
