John Cena is one of few WWE performers with carte blanche on the stick; until he petitions for Chris Benoit's Hall Of Fame inclusion, that isn't likely to change. He could have used his status to alter the wording of the promos designed to make a mockery of the Bray Wyatt character in 2014. He didn't. He made a mockery of the Bray Wyatt character. At WrestleMania XXX, Wyatt failed to unleash the monster within John Cena. On the April 14, 2014 RAW, Cena attempted to unleash the party animal within Bray Wyatt!

"I wanna have some fun. Are you guys ready to have some fun?" Cena said, in the midst of promoting a steel cage match at a pay-per-view entitled Extreme Rules opposite an opponent promoted as a dark supernatural force. The commentary team forced some laughs as Cena claimed that, if Wyatt would just cut loose every now and then, he and his family would have been the life of the party. Erick Rowan had "jokes for days". Luke Harper was exactly the kind of guy to "streak through the quad". Wyatt, secretly, was a "ladies man". Then, for bonus points, Cena mocked Wyatt up in Sister Abigail drag on the Titantron. It's not as if Cena needed to rattle Wyatt in the storyline. He had just comprehensively defeated him.

Cena failed to put the once-terrifying premise behind the Wyatt Family over, and the Wyatt Family soon became irrelevant.

This was not a coincidence.
