Darren Drozdov's active wrestling career came to an end during an episode of SmackDown in 1999. Droz was taking on D'Lo Brown in a singles match and suffered a devastating neck injury while Brown was trying to deliver his running power bomb finisher. In an interview, Droz stated he was wearing a loose shirt during the match. When Brown went for the power bomb he wasn't able to gain a proper grip while Droz wasn't able to execute a proper jump to aid in the lifting phase of the move. Droz landed on his head and fractured two discs in his neck. He was immediately taken to hospital where surgeons tried to reduce and stabilize pressure on his neck. Unfortunately, the surgery didn't stop Droz becoming a quadriplegic with essentially no movement below the neck. Droz has since regained movement in his upper body and arms. SmackDown was taped back then like it is today so the match has never seen the light of day. However, the footage of him being taken out on a stretcher has been seen in WWE's "Don't Try This at Home" public service announcements. After the incident, Droz worked for WWE and began contributing articles and essays for the website and magazine. He also became a recurring guest on the WWE Byte This and appeared on a number of the company's DVD releases.
