10 WWE Wrestlers Who Were Never The Same After Returning From Injury

9. Joey Mercury

Joey Mercury was one half of MNM, one of WWE's most successful tag teams. Alongside Johnny Nitro, Mercury became a tag team champion and Melina was the glue that held the team together. MNM was very good in the ring as a unit and extremely good at getting heat with the WWE crowds. Mercury looked the part, as he was young, cocky and very arrogant. His head was in the clouds and his ego was on display for the whole world to see. MNM operated as if they were in a vacuum; no other team existed and no one other team was as important. The act was more than successful, it was over to the moon and Mercury was a big part of making that happen. However it was in 2006 when MNM suffered its worst setback as a tag team. It was at the Armageddon pay-per-view when MNM squared off against The Hardy Boys, William Regal and Dave Taylor, and Paul London and Brian Kendrick. That night, we saw one of the company's most gruesome injuries occur. Mercury inadvertently took a ladder shot to the face, smashing his orbital bone and breaking his nose. Though he did eventually recover from his injuries, MNM never did and he became best known for that bloody night in December. Even a run in CM Punk's Straight Edge Society does not change that. Thanks to not only his injury but his own personal demons, Mercury's ring career was just never the same after that.
