Never say never, am I right?

In all seriousness, while it's unlikely that Shinsuke Nakamura will leave WWE to return to New Japan, his contract does come up early next year. And, if the rumors are true, New Japan have expressed interest in bringing back their former World and Intercontinental Champion.

The King of Strong Style's run in WWE has been approached by fans with two minds. Some see it as Nakamura taking it easy on his his shot body and collecting cheques off his charisma. Others, however, feel that WWE simply don't get Nakamura, and have hindered his wrestling style and potential.

However you feel about Nakamura's current run, given that he was unable to win the WWE Championship from AJ Styles and was instead slotted into the US title scene, it's clear he's hit his ceiling on the main roster. We can't pretend to know how Nakamura himself feels about this, but it can be assumed that if New Japan want him back, they'd want him back in a big way.

Shinsuke is of course no stranger to G1 action. One of his last great matches in the company was the 2015 tournament final against Hiroshi Tanahashi, which earned the Wrestling Observer Newsletter's Match Of The Year award. If his body can take the toll, and he's willing to return to the Japanese style, it might be in his best interests to return.
