8. Saito Calls The Shots

One of wrestling’s finest ever big men, the man they call Vader was a huge star in New Japan, WCW and a booking casualty of the Kliq in the WWF. His intensity, freakish strength in the weights room and NFL credentials made him a respected figure behind the scenes. Vader’s matches were often as brutal as they looked thanks to his notoriously stiff style.

One half of several infamous, real fights with the likes of Paul Orndorff and Stan Hansen, Vader’s worst throwdown came during his time in Japan. According to Matthew Randazzo V’s controversial wrestling exposé Ring of Hell, communications between Vader and opponent Masa Saito broke down mid match. Infuriated, the giant moonsault aficionado yelled, “Vader calls the shots motherf****er!”

An incensed Saito proceeded to beat the snot out of Vader, knocking him out cold and demanding the referee count Vader out to end the match. Perhaps no one warned Vader that Saito was nicknamed Mr Torture. Nor the scary tidbit that Saito did two years hard time in the United States for savagely whooping two police officers over a vandalism dispute. Not a man to be trifled with, Saito ended the match (and Vader’s night) in humiliating, brain damaging fashion.
