ECW One Night Stand 2005 was a fun trip down memory lane for fans of the hardcore promotion. A violent, often humorous show full of sprint matches, shoot promos and an ultra rowdy crowd, One Night Stand was booked to end on a triumphant note for the ECW alumni.

A host of WWE invaders, including main event stars such as Kurt Angle, Edge and JBL, stormed the ring to throw down with (most of) ECW’s finest. In the ensuing brawl, veteran midcard act and bWo lifer The Blue Meanie had his face smashed by JBL. Stiffing Meanie like there was no tomorrow, JBL left him a bloody mess by the end of the show. Dirt sheets subsequently reported of beef between the two leading up to the event.

Meanie had been critical of JBL’s treatment of him and several others when discussing his time in WWF as Bluedust in the late '90s. By the time One Night Stand rolled in, JBL was well aware of Meanie’s feelings and decided to deal out some punishment. JBL himself has refuted this version of events, claiming Meanie threw the first legit shot and the following beatdown was in self defence. Given JBL’s controversial track record, that seems questionable at best...

Understandably miffed, Meanie considered legal action until WWE signed him to a short term contract. Part of his brief 2005 run on SmackDown included a win over JBL. Not a clean win of course; Meanie scored it thanks to help from Batista and bWo pal Stevie Richards.
