10 Wrestlers That The Undertaker Couldn't Get Over

10. Shane McMahon

Okay, so Shane McMahon was crazy over when he returned to TV before WrestleMania 32, but there’s no doubt his popularity plummeted by the time his match with The Undertaker ended. Some of that was inevitable. Since Shane had been gone from the company for years, fans were going to explode when he first stepped foot back in the ring. Then the more familiar they became with him again, those pops would die down. But his storyline was filled with so many plot holes, and the match itself was so bad, that both men seemed to lose some of their mystique by the end of it.

One of the bigger problems at play was how the match was positioned. Shane was booked to be an MMA badass instead of a 46-year-old man whose only chance of winning was to outsmart his opponent. That way he could resort to interference to keep hope alive, but instead he locked on sloppy submissions that the much larger veteran had to embarrassingly sell.

It was Taker’s job to make the golden child look good, but it just wasn’t possible. Shane can do big stunts, but he's unable to execute the most basic of moves without badly exposing himself. The two put on a ridiculously long fight, which ended up being the the longest Mania match in years, and yet it’s only remembered for one big move.

While Undertaker may have some supernatural abilities at his disposal, he wasn’t able to conjure up enough of those powers to make Shane look like a credible athlete.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
