It was nothing more than sheer incompetence from Vince McMahon and the awful creative that caused the fans to turn on Bayley.

In NXT, ‘The Hugger’ was one of the most popular stars on the show, forging a genuine connection with both adults and kids who bought into her relentless enthusiasm and desire to never give up. It was as if someone found a way to tweak John Cena’s character to appeal to everyone. Sure, she was kid friendly, but that didn’t make her a child.

But in the often child-like mind of Vince McMahon, that’s exactly what she was.

Once on the main roster, her childish tendencies were turned up to 11, and eventually, the fans turned on what became a tedious character. Roundly considered one of the worst segments in wrestling history, the ‘This is Your Life’ hosted by Alexa Bliss made Bayley out to be a complete loser. She hadn’t even been kissed!

To double down on the horrendous creative, the entire story was heading towards Bayley dishing out a vicious and cathartic kendo stick beating on ‘Little Miss Bliss’, but when the time came, she just didn’t have it in her and Bliss duly delivered one of her.

The now ‘Role Model’ was then faced with trying to sell her decision in an awful backstage interview where you could see that she knew she had lost the fans.

It’s a good thing Bayley is so damn talented and managed to fight her way back to the top of the division.
