10 Wrestlers Too Good To Be Ruined By WWE's Bad Booking
1. Daniel Bryan
It couldn't be anyone else at #1.
Daniel Bryan was at the heart of one of the greatest WrestleMania moments ever, but the man himself has gone on record stating that it was never supposed to happen. The way WWE booked him in the eight months prior to WrestleMania XXX certainly backs that statement up.
Daniel Bryan rode an earlier wave of fan sentiment to the main event of SummerSlam in 2013, beating John Cena to capture the top prize in the company. However, he immediately lost his title after Randy Orton cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase and Bryan spent the rest of the year falling short in his quest to reclaim the gold.
Yet fans never gave up on their man. Even after another PPV loss at the Royal Rumble (this time to Bray Wyatt), fans were livid when they realised Bryan wasn't going to make an appearance in the Rumble match itself. The resultant cacophony of boos (you will never see Rey Mysterio receive such a negative reaction again) derailed the match and WWE's plans to have Bryan face Sheamus at 'Mania.
Honestly though, the writing was on the wall for Bryan's ascension to the main event of WrestleMania even before the Rumble. Watch this clip of Daniel Bryan turning his back on the Wyatt family and you will see a genius at the height of his powers. The way Bryan gradually works the crowd into an ecstatic crescendo still gives us goosebumps to this day.
Daniel Bryan shared a once-in-a-generation connection with wrestling fans, and it was a thrill to watch as it tore up WWE's stagnant booking and forced the company to give the goat-faced GOAT his moment in the sun.
(Just kidding about the goat-face, by the way. Daniel Bryan is handsome!)
