Now to be fair, creative was the one that really let down Andrew “Test” Martin during his hot angle involving Stephanie McMahon and Triple H. The right way for things to have gone down would have been for him to get that one big win on pay-per-view over the guy who stole his fiancee, and then they could see if he was able to manage as a top star from there.

All he really got out of the entire deal was a match on Raw.

Test was getting over a bit as Steph’s love interest, and Shane McMahon helped raise him up a bit at SummerSlam 1999 in a “Love her or Leave her” match. Test later defeated Hunter in a match on Raw, before finding out that his bride-to-be had secretly married the leader of DX. The McMahon-Helmsley Era was born and Test soon went to war with the group. It was over quickly

Test lost a tag match against Hunter and X-Pac, and the group continued to beat him up in the subsequent weeks. They faced off in various forms, but something wasn’t quite clicking. Fans weren’t exactly clamoring for a big Test/Hunter singles match, even though that was what the storyline called for.

Perhaps it was simply a lack of charisma on Test’s part, and a lack of chemistry between the two that doomed things from proceeding further.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
