10 Wrestlers We Wish Could Fight Forever
"FIGHT FOR-EV-ER!" CLAP CLAP CLAPCLAPCLAP
At NXT TakeOver: Dallas, Shinsuke Nakamura made his WWE debut in a match against Sami Zayn. Though fans who were familiar with both men's bodies of work had high hopes for the contest, even those expectations were likely blown away. The two men had the best WWE match of the year thus far, an encounter so exciting that fans watching forgot the debuting Nakamura had to win and simply hung on every move.
At one point, the crowd was so bowled over by the action in the ring that they started chanting "Fight Forever!" at the two men. The chant - which has been around on the independent circuit - is the ultimate sign of respect for two performers. It means that the audience is so thrilled by what the men or women in the ring are doing that they wish the action could keep going on and on. Matches are wrestlers' truest measure of self-expression in this art form, so there can be no higher compliment.
Nakamura and Zayn were undoubtedly great together, but they're not the only ones. There's more quality in-ring action in pro wrestling than ever before, and some wrestlers do their best work with a specific partner. Here are ten groups of wrestlers we wish could fight forever.
10. The Revival And American Alpha
Nakamura and Zayn may have had the match of the night at TakeOver: Dallas, but it wasn't the only great bout on the show. In the opener, American Alpha defeated The Revival for the NXT Tag Team Titles in another match that we ought to see again and again.
American Alpha are great because they're so dynamic, exciting, and authentic. There's absolutely no artifice when it comes to Jason Jordan and Chad Gable - with the exception of their names, every single thing about them is real. That's made them beloved among NXT fans, and the fact that they're such accomplished amateur wrestlers gives their offense legitimacy.
The Revival, on the other hand, are the quintessential tag team. Neither man will ever be a singles star (they're so unremarkable individually that fans can't tell them apart), but as a unit they're the key to so many good matches. Dawson (the bald one), especially, is an expert at making a match work and keeping his opponents looking strong, all while getting under the fans' collective skin.
This dynamic - flashy individuality versus subdued sameness, with authenticity on both sides - makes the teams work perfectly against each other.
