10 Wrestlers Who 'Borrowed' What Got Them Over
1. Ric Flair
Flair's always been one of the dirtiest players in the game, so it should come as no surprise that he thieved most of his gimmick. When he broke into the business, Flair idolised Dusty Rhodes, so much that he originally wanted to be known as 'Rambling' Rich Rhodes. However, Dusty told him to go out and become his own man.
So he did. He became The Nature Boy. Except years before he was 'The Nature Boy' Ric Flair, there was 'The Nature Boy' Buddy Rogers. Although the handover of the name was consented to by Rogers, who, in his 50s, even put Flair over in the feud that evolved from Ric calling himself 'The Nature Boy', it can't be denied that Rogers gave Flair almost the entirety of his gimmick.
The name, the bleach-blonde look, the arrogance, the signature strut, even the figure-four leg lock, all of them came from Buddy Rogers. It can't be denied that Flair's charisma and talent gave him one of the most storied and respected careers in the history of the business, but having a tried and true name, gimmick and finishing move didn't hurt either.
