10 Wrestlers Who 'Borrowed' What Got Them Over
4. Bray Wyatt
As The Road Warriors have proven, it's not uncommon for a wrestler to steal their look from a popular movie. The Road Warriors took inspiration from Mad Max, Sting took inspiration from The Crow, and John Cena stole his entire look from one of the characters in Fred: The Movie.
Bray Wyatt, is one such wrestler who, with his Hawaiian shirt, white trousers and soft spoken preacher-of-vengeance speeches, is paying homage to Robert De Niro's portrayal of Max Cady from Cape Fear. But that's ok, that's quite an unique homage for a wrestler to perform isn't it? Except, not really. The following clip is of a wrestler called Dan Spivey, with his Waylon Mercy gimmick from back in 1995.
Although this gimmick was short-lived due to build of injuries over the years, Spivey's take bears a striking similarity to Wyatt's, the soft southern tones belying sinister gothic intent combining with the similar look. Wyatt has developed the gimmick, with the additional layer of backwoods cult leaders, and has become one of the top heels on the roster (supposedly).
