10 Wrestlers Who Absolutely Love Annoying Fans
4. CM Punk
The former fan favourite turned UFC catastrophe turned occasional show host has long been renowned for getting under fans’ skin. Prone to shoot style promos that blur the lines between kayfabe and reality, Punk frequently had fans scratching their heads during his WWE run. Whilst his pipe bomb promos made him a hero to diehard fans, for many others, his disgruntled employee act was an unpleasant, often obnoxious persona.
His propensity to make light of real life set backs also copped plentiful negative press from viewers. Among them was his lampooning of Jerry Lawler’s all too real, near fatal heart attack in 2012. Another occurred the next year when the death of Paul Bearer served as serious trash talk fuel for Punk during his feud with the Undertaker.
Footage of Punk arguing in character with fans at house shows has been leaked several times, ranging from homophobic insults to cruelly accusing them of watching Hogan era TNA. He has also frequently teased never wrestling again before doing a 180 and implying he might’ve done a few masked run-ins on the Chicago indie circuit.
With rumours circulating of Vince McMahon holding little interest in working with Punk again, his Backstage gig is (for now) the vent of the Straight Edge Saviour’s often controversial opinions and criticisms.
