10 Wrestlers Who Are In The Wrong Promotion

4. Gunther

Good lord, what the hell happened here? It wasn’t as if there was any real expectation of WALTER eventually heading to the main roster and dominating. In general, fans were largely content with having the big Austrian show up on NXT now and then and crush fools. Every time the imposing strings of Dvořák’s Symphony No.9 began, everyone knew that it was on. Business picked up whenever WALTER decided to grace the ring with his presence.

Somehow, someway, WWE has defanged WALTER. Yes, it should be Gunther, but Gunther is a character from Friends and nobody should think otherwise. A clean loss to Bron Breakker doesn’t indicate the rosiest of futures for the Imperium leader, but could that be a blessing in disguise? Is it time for Gunther to go quietly into the night and allow WALTER to truck fools on the indie circuit once more?

There are no bad fits for WALTER, other than where he currently finds himself. What a cruel, cruel world. Put him in Impact, a re-booted Ring of Honor, back in PWG or wherever, and you’ve got yourself a serious main event competitor with readymade stories to tell. Instead, WALTER will remain a dormant volcano while Gunther argues with his buddies in overly-scripted backstage segments.

Great.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
