10 Wrestlers Who Are Real-Life Heroes
7. Roman Reigns
Roman Reigns was well into his career as a dull, white-meat babyface when he won the Universal Championship from Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam 2018. A few months in, he was set to defend the title at Crown Jewel.
Then on the October 22nd edition of Raw, Roman Reigns did not appear. Instead Joe Anoa'i came out, announcing that his leukaemia had returned after nine years in remission and that he would need to relinquish the Universal Title to undergo treatment. Nothing turned the WWE fans to the Big Dog's side more than the bravery that he showed making that announcement in front of a live crowd.
He was first diagnosed shortly after he signed for the Minnesota Vikings football team in 2007, and went into remission in 2009. Joe decided to keep his diagnosis to himself when he signed with WWE as he didn't want his illness used in a distasteful storyline as Vince McMahon is want to do.
Thankfully, Reigns recovered by February in time for WrestleMania Season; a role model for all the people watching going through the same battles. We will always acknowledge you!
