Kalisto had one of the most up and down tenures during his eight years in WWE. Starting off as one of the first true NXT call-ups, the Mexican high-flyer had all the potential in the world, with fans already seeing him as the heir to Rey Mysterio. Unfortunately, a series of missteps, in the ring and on the microphone, led to a tumble down the WWE pecking order, in turn leading to his release in April of last year.

Since his release Samuray Del Sol has largely stayed out of the spotlight, wrestling a handful of independent matches across the United States and Mexico as well as a one-off appearance for All Elite Wrestling, challenging FTR for the AAA Tag Team Championships alongside Aero Star. Fans were happy to see Samuray pop up on Dynamite, hoping this might lead to a signing with Tony Khan's company, but that is yet to happen.

With wrestlers like Penta, Rey Fenix, and other incredible high-flyers on the current roster, Tony Khan and company may not see adding Samuray Del Sol as a top priority. Still, at only 35 years old, the former Kalisto has plenty left in the tank and can be a welcome addition to the AEW roster anytime he signs.
