William Regal is almost certainly one of WWE's job-for-life types. Having been with the promotion since rejoining from WCW in 2000, he serves an important role not only as NXT General Manager, but as a Director of Talent Development and Head of Global Recruiting, making him a pivotal backstage figure - particularly at a developmental level.

Things weren't always so secure for the Englishman, though. A supremely talented professional wrestler with an Arn Anderson-like mastery of the sport's little nuances, his vices and personal problems derailed many a push throughout his in-ring career - including his run as the 'Real Man's Man' in 1999.

That January saw Regal taken off television and sent to rehab before WWE let him go three months later. When interviewed by talkSPORT in 2015, Regal put his hands up. He said that the failure was all on him and not Vince Russo, who came up with the maligned gimmick, with management realising soon after his demotion that he was in no fit state to keep performing on television. He ended up re-signed and back on WWE TV 18 months later.
