"There's a special surprise waiting at the end of this piece too - he stands alone".

He certainly does. Edge's re-arrival at the 2020 Royal Rumble was a total shocker to fans who'd long-since given up on seeing their hero wrestle again. The 'Rated-R Superstar' had retired against his will due to injuries in 2011, but roared back into view a full 9 years later with tears in his eyes.

Edge's WWE career looked like a thing of the past until the 2020 Rumble. Come the 2024 version, he'll be looking on from afar in AEW; that company was only an upstart contender as WWE competition when Edge launched the most unlikely of comebacks. The emotion in Houston was phenomenal.

Adam Copeland said he left WWE because he had more itches to scratch as a performer before hanging up his boots. In 2020, he must've been on fire with adrenaline and hopeful for the future. It remains one of wrestling's best 'back from the dead' moments ever.
