10 Wrestlers Who Can Succeed Finn Balor As NXT's Icon

4. Kenny Omega

It’s hard to know what’s really going on with Kenny Omega at any given time, such is his propensity for trolling. Omega and his NJPW sidekicks the Young Bucks have spent much of 2016 goading The New Day from afar, even going so far as to appear wearing the group’s merchandise at recent shows.

He claims WWE made him three separate contract offers throughout 2015, but stuck around to unseat Kota Ibushi, who has now left the company, as NJPW’s top Junior Heavyweight. Omega has since transitioned to NJPW’s Heavyweight division and enjoyed a run as IWGP Intercontinental Champion earlier this year, but while his stated reason for sticking around has now been nullified, there are further complications.

Omega is a noted Japanophile who has lived in Tokyo for years, speaks the language, and appreciates all aspects of Japanese culture. He’s also been through the WWE developmental with Deep South Wrestling, but that ended back in 2006, and while he’s been openly critical of WWE in recent years, that’s quietened down a lot lately.

Instead, there are rumours swirling around Japan that Omega is angling to sign with the company, with many suggesting that this led to him dropping his Intercontinental Title to Michael Elgin last month. If this is the case, fans should be very excited. Omega is perfect for NXT: he’s great on the microphone and in the ring, and has proven his ability to get over as both a maniacal heel and a comedic jester. His all-round ability, versatility, and entertainment factor make Omega a must-sign wrestler should he become available.
