10 Wrestlers Who Competed In Matches In Their 70s And Beyond
6. Lou Thesz (74)
You don't get 'em much more legendary than Lou Thesz.
Thesz was about as famous as the z in his name was silent, leading the NWA through its most popular period and holding its top title three times for a combined total of over a decade.
To give Lou the credit he deserves would take up this entire article and more, but let's just say there's a reason that the Wrestling Observer named its "Wrestler of the Year" award after him.
Thesz was still wrestling at a main event level well into his middle-age, losing his final NWA title at the age of 49. He became a world champion again in Mexico, winning the Universal Wrestling Alliance's Heavyweight Championship at the age of 62.
Perhaps its no surprise then that Lou's final match was on a grand stage, despite his advanced age.
His last ever bout took place in Japan on Boxing Day of 1990. He was going up against Masahiro Chono, a former IWGP Heavyweight Champion and one of Thesz's students.
The 74-year-old Thesz was defeated by the man he had helped to train, but left the ring that night with quite a remarkable record. He became only the second male wrestler in history to perform in seven different decades.
