10 Wrestlers Who Competed In Matches In Their 70s And Beyond
5. Pat Patterson (78)
Pat Patterson is one of the finest wrestling minds of all time.
The very first Intercontinental Champion has been described as "Vince McMahon's right-hand man" and was part of his inner circle during the WWF's rise to global success.
He is credited with inventing the Royal Rumble match and was an on-screen presence during the Attitude Era as one of Mr. McMahon's "Stooges".
There's no denying that Patterson is a legend and that he rightfully earned his place in the Hall of Fame in 1996. But there's one record that Pat lays claim to that you may not expect.
On 22 July 2019 - the totally authentic and definitely not a ratings grab "Raw Reunion" show - 24/7 Champion, Drave Maverick, was running away from The Boogeyman. Sadly, this led him to Patterson, who took advantage of the confusion and pinned Maverick to become the new champ.
At 78 years and 184 days, this makes Patterson the oldest person in history to win a championship in WWE.
Now calling this a "match" might be a bit of a stretch, but it's definitely a record that's worth celebrating.
Well done, Pat.
