10 Wrestlers Who Could Give CM Punk His First AEW Loss
8. Hook
We’ll caveat firstly that AEW do need to be a little careful with Hook. The young grappler has become an internet sensation, and if used incorrectly could never transcend that. There’s the risk that he becomes more meme than wrestler, with deeply online fans demanding him as a joke and the rest of the crowd looking on nonplussed.
That’s a worst case scenario, though, and so far the future looks rosy for Hook. His matches have been brief but effective and impactful, he clearly has in-ring skill, and his aura is undeniable. He seems to be being smartly built at present, dispatching lower-midcarders with relative ease on the way to something bigger.
It doesn’t get much bigger than CM Punk; what’s more, it’s a logical endgame for the rookie who was basically birthed by Punk calling him out on TV. The veteran asked Taz to send Hook. It stands to reason that this story ends with Hook making Punk regret ever speaking his name.
Without having much ring work to go on, Hook’s grappling and submission style looks as though it would be a good match for Punk. If he’s really in AEW to test himself against hot young talent, Hook could well be perfect.
