10 Wrestlers Who Could Win Their First World Title In 2021

8. SANADA

Big E WWE Champion
NJPW

NJPW is chock-full of fantastic wrestlers who may never get to hold the IWGP Heavyweight Championship. The ship has likely already sailed on Tomohiro Ishii, Hirooki Goto and Minoru Suzuki, while men like Juice Robinson, Shingo Takagi, Taichi and Zack Sabre Jr. might find themselves frustrated by ceilings they have already hit. It is arguably the toughest championship to win in all of pro wrestling, EVIL and Dick Togo's ability to choke people aside.

Even with that in mind, it is difficult to imagine a scenario where SANADA doesn't eventually get his hands on the IWGP Heavyweight Championship. The handsome pirate lion man came within a whisker of winning the 2020 G1 Climax, and fans have been clamouring for the former Impact X-Division champion to become a fixture on NJPW's main event scene for years. Those days have arrived.

If I was a betting man, I'd be putting heavy dollar down on SANADA winning the New Japan Cup and/or the G1 Climax in 2021. Neither of those wins guarantees championship success but NJPW can only avoid the inevitable for so long. SANADA's time will come, and it may do so next year.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
