10 Wrestlers Who Couldn't Pull Off Interesting Gimmicks
6. Kevin Thorn
Poor Kevin Fertig can't catch a break - either that, or he's been given two strong characters and hasn't been able to get over with either of them. After flopping as Mordecai, heading back to OVW, getting fired, and getting rehired again, he was given the character of Kevin Thorn, the revamped (no pun intended) ECW's resident vampire.
Vampires have been a consistent cultural phenomenon since Dracula was published, and for good reason - there's so much leeway with them when it comes to getting creative. They can be portrayed as monstrous blood-drinkers, sexy, brooding nihilists bored with the concept of everlasting life, or anything in between.
Thorn was toward the latter end of the spectrum, and there was plenty of mileage for a good wrestling character there. While The Brood had mined that territory earlier, they never got too far into the vampire mythos. Thorn had the opportunity to make it work, but once again, he flopped. His ring work was no better than it was when he was Mordecai, and frankly, he wasn't in the shape to pull off the "sexy vampire" character. Despite lasting for over a year this time, he didn't get remotely over.
