10 Wrestlers Who Did Their Best Work In TNA/IMPACT
9. Bully Ray
Team 3D appeared to be on the tail end of their careers when they split in 2010. Following a much better than expected blood feud, the newly renamed Bully Ray then filled in the excommunicated Jeff Hardy's slot in Immortal.
Initially dismissed as a woefully inadequate replacement for the biggest star the promotion had at the time, Ray stuck it to his critics by getting into the best shape of his life. Cutting exceptionally unpleasant heel promos week to week, Ray became a natural heat magnet. His feuds with the likes of AJ Styles, Austin Aries and Mr. Anderson during this time kept the often topsy turvy TNA product interesting.
The company were so impressed with Ray's efforts that they rewarded him with a world title win in 2013. Bully Ray as a despicable champ should've been phenomenal. While his matches and promos remained good throughout, his time in the main event was hampered by the ridiculous Aces and Eights angle.
As the leader of one of TNA's many poor cracks at a heel faction, Ray was the face of both the promotion and its decline. After a stellar 2012, TNA took a dozen steps backwards in 2013 and never really recovered.
Despite the flaws, the quality of Bully Ray's work was high throughout. After two decades as a tag guy, he revealed a top level singles heel had always been waiting to break out. It's a pity his ROH run couldn't quite live up to his work rate here.
