10 Wrestlers Who Didn't Fit The Belt
7. Santino Marella - Miss Wrestlemania
This one might be cheating a bit, as it was more of a sash as opposed to a belt. Regardless, Marella defended it as if it were a belt, having two 'reigns' with it, and that is close enough for this list.
Santino Marella debuted in 2007 and was a notable comedy character on WWE programming for pretty much all of his time there. Although many fans never warmed to the character, he did provide some enjoyable moments over the years when he wasn't taking screen time away from more 'serious' wrestlers.
Prior to Wrestlemania 25, it was announced there would be a '25-Diva Battle Royal' to crown 'Miss Wrestlemania', and Santino announced his desire to enter and win the competition. He eventually managed to weasel his way into the match, poorly disguised as his 'twin sister', Santina. Of course, he won and was crowned 'Miss Wrestlemania'. Yes, that's right, the whole female roster and some notable alumni were wheeled out for nothing more than a comedy skit.
Marella successfully defended the 'title' against Beth Phoenix at the Backlash Pay Per View before losing it to Vickie Guerrero on the 18th May episode of Raw. He then won it back on 7th June in a hog pen match, which was pretty degrading for all involved. The 'title' was effectively retired when Marella was 'fired' by Donald Trump, who was the owner of Raw for story line purposes at the time.
Although the angle did provide some mildly amusing moments, it wasn't really worth the mockery it made of the women's division. That said, it was largely a joke at that point in time anyway, so perhaps it was fitting that a comedy character was one of their main stars for a brief period.
