10 Wrestlers Who Didn't Take Their Gimmicks Seriously Enough
7. Jeff Hardy
Admittedly there is a bit of cross-over between his WWE and TNA guises here, but the same story arc was made reference to in both companies: Jeff was the guy who screwed up in his youth, then got back on the straight and narrow and finally fulfilled his potential.
Except that's not quite how it happened. Granted, Jeff did clean up his act in the years he spent away from mainstream wrestling between 2003 and 2006, hence he ended up getting re-signed by Vince McMahon and almost instantly pushed to the main event.
But it wasn't like he magically turned into a model of professionalism behind the cameras. We've all seen Victory Road 2011, a show he was said to have arrived at so intoxicated that he was unable to compete for more than 90 seconds.
Yet should he ever reach the top of the WWE mountain again, you can bet your bottom dollar that promo material will celebrate him as an example of a once wayward young rebel who vanquished his demons for good when he won the world title.
