10 Wrestlers Who Died In Mysterious Circumstances
5. Abismo Negro
Debuting in CMLL in 1991, Abismo Negro would be one of many luchadors who would make the jump to AAA a year later in 1992, where he would spend the rest of his career.
On the night of 20 March 2009, Negro was travelling by bus to Mexico City. Appearing agitated, he insisted the bus driver let him off, despite it being 1:30 am and the bus being in the middle of nowhere.
Acquiescing to his demands, a text message received by Negro's wife later revealed that he had found himself lost in the dark hillside.
After a 24 hour search, Abismo Negro was finally discovered on the morning of 22 March, floating face down in a river near the town of El Rosario, Sinaloa.
Medical experts speculated that Negro may have suffered an anxiety attack owing to steroid usage, although there was no suggestion that he had ever abused steroids. An autopsy on 23 March subsequently determined the official cause of death to be due to drowning.
No investigation was ever undertaken or has been planned to examine the circumstances surrounding Abismo Negro's disappearance, or the hours that led up to his untimely death at 37.
