10 Wrestlers Who Entered The Royal Rumble With Multiple Gimmicks

9. One Man Gang/Akeem

The first of our three Royal Rumble runner-ups in this list, One Man Gang was the first man to finish second in the history of the Royal Rumble. The future Akeem was the most dominant individual in the 1988 match, eliminating an impressive six men to set an early record in that regard. He failed at the last, however, being the first man to be the last man eliminated in the Royal Rumble.

One year later the Gang returned for another crack at the Rumble, and once again he made it down to the nitty gritty, eventually being the 28th man eliminated from the match. The history books don't record this as One Man Gang, however; by this point, the big man from Chicago had morphed into Akeem, the African Dream.

Akeem would feature in his final Rumble in 1990, proving far less successful. He was thrown out by 'Superfly' Jimmy Snuka after just two minutes. You won't find two more contrasting gimmicks than One Man Gang and Akeem, although I should probably hold my tongue for now.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
