10 Wrestlers Who Got Buried For Someone Else Screwing Up

5. Sean O’Haire

Sean O’Haire’s run on SmackDown in 2003 is neglectfully underappreciated.

He showed great promise when he reappeared with a Devil's advocate look and gimmick, being way ahead of his time when cutting menacing promos that he always concluded with the dynamic line “I'm not telling you anything you don't already know." He went on a winning streak and scored some huge wins over top-level talent like Eddie Guerrero, Hulk Hogan and Chris Benoit. Steve Austin and John Morrison have praised him in recent years for how quietly good he was.

His gimmick and push were at first enhanced when “Rowdy” Roddy Piper starting mentoring him on screen and off. This was stopped altogether though when Piper made some controversial (and profound in hindsight) comments regarding the rate of death amongst wrestlers under the age of 45 in an interview with HBO.

WWE quickly fired Piper as a result and Sean was forgotten about and reduced to competing on Velocity and eventually released from his contract altogether. In a sadly ironic twist, Sean O’Haire passed away in 2014 at the age of 43 after battling depression and alcohol addiction.
