10 Wrestlers Who Got Injured At The Worst Possible Time

8. Roman Reigns

Seth Rollins may have turned on the Shield to become WWE's hottest heel, but it was clear that Roman Reigns was the team member being groomed for stardom. Rollins feuded with Dean Ambrose while Reigns took on Randy Orton, but after those programs ended, it was time for Reigns to get revenge on his former teammate. A match was made for Night of Champions, and the red-hot Reigns may have scored a huge win, but he suffered a hernia days before the bout, and it was cancelled. Reigns had surgery and was out for almost three months. When Reigns returned, he was immediately pushed hard, but WWE fans began to turn on him. Dean Ambrose had become the most popular babyface in the company in Reigns's absence, and fans resented seeing Reigns overtake Ambrose immediately. Angry audiences saw him as another John Cena - a creation of WWE's corporate machine who was simply on top because the company said so. Still, WWE kept Reigns's push going. He won the Royal Rumble, but that ratcheted up the animosity - especially since WWE chose to bring Daniel Bryan back for the match, then had the former WWE Champion eliminated in anticlimactic fashion. Reigns was hated after his win, and while his championship feud with Lesnar was built strongly, the WrestleMania bout saw Rollins cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase to win the title. The company couldn't take the chance of putting the belt on an unpopular babyface. Six months later, Reigns is being built back up, but Rollins is still champion. It's likely Reigns will get another shot at the top, but WWE can't predict how fans will react when it happens.
