10 Wrestlers Who Got TERRIBLE Advice From WWE

2. DX Must Be More Wholesome

The WWF was changing in late-1997.

Vince McMahon's family-friendly sheen of before gave way to a much more seductive style that'd appeal to an anti-authority generation. Sex, cursing and general sophomoric antics became the rule of thumb, and D-Generation X were the clown princes of McMahon's bold new direction.

Not everyone liked it. The USA Network, for example, warned Vince to tone things down. Specifically, they wanted DX to cease their juvenile behaviour, quit yelling things like "Suck It" and stop shoving socks down their shorts to make it look like they had massive penises.

Under pressure from the network, Vince pleaded with Shawn Michaels and Triple H to tone it down, but they wouldn't listen. Amazingly enough, USA stopped being so worried about the suggestive content when ratings started going through the roof. Imagine that.

DX proceeded to push the envelope even further. They had to, 'cause a PG-style faction that promised rebellion wasn't going to cut it.
