Before Braun Strowman, erm, blossomed into a legitimate top-level presence in WWE, he was a former Wyatt Family member looking for a role. The Monster Among Men had gone through the usual WWE tropes of squashing jobbers and eliciting 'CAN ANYONE STOP THE MONSTER' reactions from always-genuine Michael Cole; it was time for a real feud.

Fans weren't particularly enthused by the prospect of a succession of Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman matches but Roman showed his abilities, making the most of natural chemistry between the two to put on what was undoubtedly Braun's best match to that point, and may well be the best singles match of Strowman's career.

At Fastlane 2017, Roman withstood all that Strowman had and managed to come out on top, handing Braun his first pinfall loss in the process. That should have annoyed fans more than it did, which in itself was a testament to the job Roman did in the match. Braun looked every inch the monster that he was marketed as, but Reigns managed to make Strowman look like a potential main event player in WWE.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
