10 Wrestlers Who Had Electric Chemistry (But WWE Did Nothing With It)
1. Owen Hart And Shawn Michaels
Fans are well aware of Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart having an incredible amount of chemistry together when they clashed in tag team encounters in their early careers when The Rockers would go up against The Hart Foundation and later when they stole the show by themselves in Iron Mans and Ladder matches fought over major singles titles. But Bret wasn’t the only Hart Shawn worked extraordinarily well with. Shawn had an underappreciated and untapped chemistry with his brother Owen.
Shawn Michaels and Owen Hart showed so much potential together in the matches they shared on TV, particularly their Title vs. Title match on Raw in October ’97 which ended in a no contest. They had so much grace and in-ring timing. It was the same electric chemistry Shawn had with Bret but more natural. You wish the WWF would have booked an extensive program between them but it just wasn’t meant to be. Fans had to settle for Raw encounters where they often tore it up, with them trading babyface and heel roles.
Jim Ross has tried to explain on his Grilling JR podcast why the WWF never went further with Owen and Shawn, “I don’t know if there was as much confidence in Vince’s eyes in Owen because of the perception that Owen didn’t have this animal magnetism that Bret possessed. So maybe Vince’s lack of total confidence in Owen affected that decision making. Owen was another guy just like Shawn, you knew that bell-to-bell, nobody was going to be better. Owen Hart was a great worker but maybe he didn’t have that zest of charisma to the level that Bret had and that is what he was being compared to. That was obviously not that fair, but that’s the only thing I can think of.”
