10 Wrestlers Who Had Electric Chemistry (But WWE Did Nothing With It)
2. Finn Bálor And AJ Styles
Finn Bálor and AJ Styles at different times were members and leaders of the famed Bullet Club stable in New Japan Pro Wrestling, a group that captured the imagination and t-shirt money of fans and followers of indie and international wrestling. So when both were signed to WWE contracts, fans hotly anticipated an alliance or feud between the pair at some point, especially after AJ climbed the ranks to become a bona fide headliner and Bálor was promoted from NXT to Raw in 2016.
There always seemed to be teasers and hints it would happen. There were backstage segments at SummerSlam 2016 and SummerSlam 2019 involving the pair teasing to touch fingers with the ‘Too Sweet’ hand gesture but WWE glumly never pulled the trigger on them getting together. They put AJ with Bullet Club alumni Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson in The O.C. faction but never gave it the potential to take off and rule over WWE the way it would had they let Bálor join.
The only major match Bálor and AJ had was at the TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs (2017) PPV where they tore it up in a 20-minute breathtaking encounter. And this match only happened by chance after Bálor’s opponent Bray Wyatt suddenly dropped out. This match should have been the catalyst for WWE to finally give fans more Bálor and AJ but it never happened.
