10 Wrestlers Who Had To Take A Break... Only To Return Better Than Ever

9. Sasha Banks

In 2019, Sasha Banks reached a boiling point with her frustrations with WWE creative.

At WrestleMania 35, The IIconics beat her and Bayley for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships in a quick 10-minute match. Meanwhile, the other Four Horsewomen, Becky Lynch and Charlotte, were doing some of the best work of their careers and making history as the first women to headline the event. There were reports of Sasha breaking down crying on the floor backstage after her match from her growing frustrations. It was a stark contrast from the Sasha Banks of old, the one who had breathtaking matches with Charlotte in 2016 and put in unbelievable performances at the NXT Takeovers Respect and Brooklyn.

After the event, Sasha swiftly disappeared from TV for months, with fans speculating on her whereabouts and whether she was looking to leave WWE. But ‘The Boss’ returned in August on Raw with some awe-inspiring heel work and went right after Becky Lynch’s Raw Women’s Championship. Another return highlight was her partnering with Bayley once again, with them winning the Women’s Tag Team Championships for a second time (but this time as heels) and eventually splitting to feud over the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

Sasha has claimed with this run “I feel that I’m putting on my best work ever.” There’s no argument here. Look to her match with Bayley at Hell in a Cell (2020) or Asuka at Survivor Series (2020) or Io Shirai at NXT: The Great American Bash for proof.
