The ‘Mass Transit Incident’ is notorious in ECW/all of wrestling lore. It concerned Erich Kulas, who was a hopeful wrestler going under the ring name ‘Mass Transit’ in a unhinged bus driver gimmick, who lied to ECW owner Paul Heyman about his age and professional wrestling training in order to get a spot as a last minute replacement in a ECW house show match, after Axl Rotten dropped out due to a family emergency.

D-Von Dudley and Mass Transit took on ‘The Gangstas’ New Jack and Mustafa Saed. Mass Transit beforehand had asked New Jack to blade him in the middle of the match given he’d never done it himself, which New Jack had no issues with. During the match New Jack beat Kulas senseless, attacking him with an array of weapons and when it came time to blade him New Jack went deep. So deep that two arteries in Kulas’ head were split. He bled so extensively he blacked out.

Erich Kulas understandably looked back on his appearance in ECW with appalling memories. He stated on an interview not long after appearing for the hardcore organization: “They savagely attacked me. They crucified me in front of a 1000 people.”
